June 26th--oh the wonders of technology

Alright, so today was the second day of reporting (official first day of class). I almost missed class due to zoning out on a story in the newsroom--at least my heart was in the right place right? Anyways, a couple tips I picked up today and have learned already:

• don't be afraid to use one source to get other ideas; expand your story to get new stories
• the best stories aren't usually the ones you originally plan on doing--get your subject to just talk to you because they usually reveal something more interesting than what you had originally planned
• it is Subject said NOT said Subject--this is important
• not everything needs to go in a story, work on conciseness

Otherwise so far I love this class and my beat. Grant H. has been amazing already in helping me get organized in thought and ideas for structure and helping teach me editing. I have a story already getting published tomorrow/tonight and two more on the way that will appear later this week.  Hope you guys like the Olympics!!!!
